Welcome, Principal Stroud!

The Region 1 Office is pleased to announce that Mr. Lawrence Stroud, current assistant principal of Oakton High School, has been selected as the next principal of Langley High School. Mr. Stroud will join the school on November 18, 2024. 

Mr. Stroud has been with Fairfax County Public Schools for 22 years, 10 as a school-based administrator. He is an instructional leader who builds relationships with a caring, energetic, and engaging personality.

Mr. Stroud started his career in education as a Social Studies teacher and football coach at Herndon High School. He eventually was promoted to the Social Studies Department Chair and Advanced Academics Coordinator.

In 2015, Mr. Stroud joined Mount Vernon High School as an assistant principal. As a result of his instructional leadership, student achievement in mathematics increased by three percent in one year across all SOL Math exams. 

In 2017, Mr. Stroud became assistant principal at Oakton High School. Mr. Stroud leads the AVID program which in the 2023 - 2024 school year increased student enrollment in the course by 10%. Mr. Stroud also leads the Cougar Commendation Recognition Program which allows the school community to recognize students and staff members who demonstrate Portrait of a Graduate attributes. 

Mr. Stroud is a FCPS 2015 Teacher of the Year Finalist. In 2017, Mr. Stroud received the Mary Jane Thornton Award for School Improvement, and in 2024, he was recognized as the Oakton High School Outstanding School Leader.

Mr. Stroud holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies from Gannon University, and a Master of Arts degree in Initiatives in Educational Transformation from George Mason University. He is a 2015 graduate of the University of Virginia Accelerated Certification Program.
