9th

  • Establish good habits and get connected
  • Get to know your counselor
  • Explore interests (clubs, volunteer activities, courses, etc.) which could lead to college or career opportunities
  • Prioritize school work and understand academic support opportunities 
  • Get involved in extracurricular activities
  • Make course selections that suit your academic abilities and interests
  • Start your activities list/resume

10th 

  • Stay in touch with your counselor and develop relationships with your teachers
  • Take the PSAT 
  • Continue exploring career interests, take Naviance Career Interest Inventories
  • Continue your commitment to your classes, activities, and service
  • Start the college/career exploration process based on your interests
  • Maintain balance with school work and course selection
  • Explore summer enrichment opportunities
  • Attend Case Studies Night (winter/spring) 
  • Update your activities list/resume

11th

  • Take the PSAT 
  • Research colleges
  • Visit colleges, attend college fairs, information sessions and open houses
  • Participate in College Visits to the Career Center (fall)
    • Sign up for College Visits in Naviance
  • Continue your career exploration
  • Continue your commitment to your classes, activities, and service
  • Maintain relationships with your counselor and teachers
  • Take college preparation tests (SAT/ACT) 
  • Attend Junior College Planning Night (winter/spring)
  • Ask teachers for recommendation letters (spring)

Rising Seniors (summer)

  • Plan for a meaningful summer 
  • Complete your senior packet
  • Finalize college list
  • Attend college visits, if necessary
  • Organize college list with deadlines and requirements
  • Create Common Application Account (typically opens August 1st) 
  • Review prompts and begin essays
  • Consider attending College Essay/Application Workshop held at LHS (August)

12th 

  • Attend Senior College Planning Night
  • Finalize the senior packet
  • Return senior packet and transcript request to School Counselor
  • Attend college visits to LHS in the fall 
  • Be aware of designated LHS deadlines 
  • Add colleges to Common App and Naviance
  • Take SAT/ACT if necessary
  • Follow up on teacher recommendations
  • Maintain grades throughout the year
  • Send official SAT/ACT scores directly to colleges (if necessary)
  • Submit applications well in advance of deadlines
  • Attend Financial Aid Night
  • File financial aid forms FAFSA and/or CSS Profile if necessary (by the college/university deadlines)
  • If accepted Early Decision withdraw your other applications
  • Make your final choice and deposit to the college by May 1st 
  • Complete your Senior Survey (this is how LHS knows where to send your final transcript)
  • GRADUATE!
